Movies are a narrative medium. That means they have to tell a story. In my belief, movies are not art-for-arts-sake. Narrative content has to be as important as, if not more than, narrative technique. This is my manifesto for this site.
I will not give star ratings in my reviews. If I write about a movie, that means I was moved by it. Postively or negatively, generally the former. And if you read the review, you’ll realize whether the movie reviewed belongs to the ”must-see” or “must-avoid” categories.
Like most critics, I too judge movies relatively, not absolutely. A good no-brainer action movie, or a slapstick comedy that works, will be reviewed more favourably than a more serious effort that does not work. That is because I am reviewing the final art product. That action movie is judged relative to other movies in that genre, not relative to that other romantic comedy.
As for me, I am someone who has loved the magic of the silver screen ever since my parents dragged me to a film when I was three years old. I did not misbehave that day, and the love affair with the movies continues thirty years on…
A decade back, I used to review films for the websites of Hindustan Times and The Times of India. Now I do it for my own unaffiliated pleasure…
I am a published author and a web-content specialist. Apart from movies, I also love all watersports, all RTS PC games, and chess.
